Zenmuse X9-8K, DJI’s flagship full-frame camera features DJI’s latest image processing system, CineCore 3.0. This system uses DJI’s proprietary chip to provide advanced processor architecture, offering extremely high-performance computing power in a compact cinema camera. CineCore 3.0 allows Ronin 4D to support internal recording of Apple ProRes RAW, ProRes 422 HQ and H.264 video. It also supports up to 8K/75fps and 4K/120fps video recording, delivering multiple options for professional-level creation.
DCI 8K (8192×4320)/60fps video retains every little detail, from rich foliage to inspiring architecture, skin texture to strands of hair, all with flawless quality. For those who need to output in 4K, recording in 8K offers unprecedented creative options with more flexibility for cropping, re-composing, and stabilizing videos in post.
Zenmuse X9-8K supports dual native ISO. X9-8K offers EI 800/4000 at full frame 30 fps and below, and EI 320/1600 above 30 fps, which records images with exquisite detail and minimal noise, even when filming an evening cityscape or beach, or a scene lit by dim candlelight.
With 14+ stops of dynamic range, Zenmuse X9 delivers natural transitions of highlights and shadows in complex lighting conditions such as backlit scenes and direct sunlight. These traditionally difficult scenes can now be captured easily and with confidence.
With the DJI Cinema Color System (DCCS) and robust computing power provided by CineCore 3.0, Zenmuse X9 is able to give images a cinematic look by retaining authentic and accurate colors. It also supports the industry-standard ACES workflow for effortless compatibility with the color tones of other cinema cameras.
The DCCS color engine utilizes a new demosaicing algorithm, rendering images that are smooth yet richly detailed. With its high bit-width internal color and tone processing abilities, natural color transitions can be achieved. Additionally, it features multiple high-precision LUT processing modules, enabling precise color performance adjustments even in complex lighting scenarios.
DCCS reproduces skin tones that are both incredibly accurate and aesthetically pleasing, even in complex lighting conditions. With simple color grading, you can achieve close-to-final visuals while also preserving ample color separation and flexibility to meet the demands of intense color grading. In addition, DCCS adopts a film-consistent symmetrical dynamic distribution, conforming to lighting and shooting habits formulated and continued from the film era. This results in more delicate and natural transitions in highlight areas.
The D-Gamut color space fully encompasses the film industry's commonly used DCI-P3 color gamut, while also reserving more allowance for green areas, revealing richer layers of green coloring. In addition, D-Gamut specifically optimizes skin tone representation to ensure skin tones are placed in the most suitable position on the chroma chart.
The D-Log curve is specifically designed for cinematic applications, and is able to cover over 14-stops of dynamic range. Even in harsh lighting conditions, it retains detailed highlight and shadow information, offering greater latitude in post-production. It matches easily with ARRI cinema camera color and supports the ACES workflow
X9 has 9-stop built-in high-quality ND filters (ND 2 to ND 512, or ND 0.3 to ND 2.7) that can be quickly and easily switched thanks to an internal motorized system. These filters were also designed to match and compliment the color science of Ronin 4D.
X9’s standard DL mount supports a set of compact full-frame prime lenses. The housings are made of lightweight, monocoque carbon fiber, so each lens weighs just 180 g.
In addition to prime lenses, X9 is compatible with DJI’s first cinema zoom lens DL PZ 17-28 mm T3.0 ASPH, which covers ultra-wide to wide-angle focal lengths with a minimum object distance of 0.19 m, delivering ultra-high resolution from center to edge. The lens body is made of magnesium aluminum alloy and weighs only approximately 520 g, making it a perfect match for the X9 gimbal camera from size to weight.
With a servo zoom motor built in, the lens delivers smooth and reliable motorized zoom without the need for mounting external focus motor or lens calibration. Gimbal re-balancing is also not required after zoom. Thanks to its precise back focus control and native system calibration, autofocus, manual focus, and automated manual focus (AMF) are all more outstandingly accurate.
X9 supports interchangeable lens mounts, including DJI’s proprietary DL mount as well as third-party mounts like Leica L, Leica M, Sony E, and ARRI PL (E-mount and PL-mount units are provided by third parties). Ultra-wide, f/0.95 large-aperture, power zoom, macro, and anamorphic lenses that are compatible with traditional cinema cameras also work on X9, providing flexible lens options.
Whether you’re using manual or autofocus lenses, dedicated modules mounted to X9 can achieve wireless lens control and even autofocusing.
The new extendable solution, Ronin 4D Flex, reduces the handheld weight down to 1.8 kg, which is only around 34% of the original weight of the Ronin 4D, making it superbly useful for cinematographers who require long-duration shooting, especially in mobile scenarios like recording documentaries, interviews, or events. The lightweight Ronin 4D Flex delivers unique advantages both in terms of its portability and high performance to meet cinematic-grade needs for high-quality imagery.
The 2m gimbal camera extension cable enables unprecedented flexibility of camera positions, allowing for through-shots and movements in narrow spaces like car interiors. It also allows the X9 gimbal camera to be used as an ultra-small cinematic-grade remote head. Even in complex spaces, tracking shots can be done easily in one take, providing opportunities for more creativity.
