This short zoom lens covers a range of frequently-used focal lengths from 18mm wide-angle to 55mm telephoto. The lens structure consists of 14 elements in 10 groups, including 3 aspheric and 1 extra low dispersion elements, and a seven-blade rounded diaphragm.

The linear motor-driven system delivers high-speed autofocus performance of 0.1 seconds to capture those perfect photo opportunities. Silent operation also makes the lens suitable for video recording.

Advanced optical and mechanical designs have been used to keep the lens compact, despite offering fast aperture of f/2.8 - 4.0 wide open.
